Grant Acronym: RCB-DHAPQ-SMC

To meet the SDG3 of Ensuring healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all age in Sub-African countries, this will necessarily be achieved by strengthening the capacities of senior researchers to become leaders in research and trainer of trainers, and to train new researchers. The continuous support from funders (EDCTP, NIH, BMGF) has led to the establishment of research capacities in many African countries. But effort should be made to maintain the sustainability and high qualification of research teams and institutions.

This senior fellowship is a Research Capacity Building grant including a Clinical Trial with DHA-PQ in SMC in school aged children in Mali (RCB-DHAQP-SMC).

RCB-DHAPQ-SMC aims to develop the capacities of the senior fellow in (i) clinical research, (ii) training of trainers, (iii) in mentoring; and (iv) to create a critical mass of researchers by training.

The work of RCB-DHAPQ-SMC is caried out in six work packages (WP):
WP1: Individual capacity development of senior fellow by self-training, under the direct mentoring of a scientific director
WP2: Development of the capacities of senior fellow in Mentoring of junior researchers
WP3: Training of masters and PhD students
WP4: Conduct of a randomized double-blind controlled clinical trial to assess safety and efficacy of DHA-PQ vs SP-AQ vs control group in SMC in school-aged children
WP5: Coordination of the project
WP6: Communication\/dissemination<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Activities completed<\/strong><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

A randomized double-blind controlled clinical trial to assess the safety and efficacy of DHA-PQ vs SP-AQ for SMC in school-aged children has been conducted in Bandiagara at the Bandiagara Malaria Project (BMP) clinical centre. The trial is now completed and the close out monitoring visit conducted (WP4). This trial has involved 345 participants aged from 6-15 years, 4 SMC rounds and 12 months of follow-up.

Workshop: \u201cIntroduction in statistics using R\u201d: From January 31st<\/sup>\u00a0to February 5th<\/sup>, 2022, at the Ogobara K Doumbo building conference room, MRTC-FMOS-FAPH\/USTTB. Ten (10) participants were trained in data management and analysis using R and Epi info software.

Training and mentoring: one master student has completed the training, one PhD student is enrolled and a second master candidate is selected and still waiting for the validation of the application by the school.
