USTTB Successfully Launches the First Edition of Its Scientific Days
From June 2 to 4, 2026, the Kabala University Campus hosted the first edition of the Scientific Days of the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB), under the theme: “Science and Technology for Development.”
This initiative brought together the academic community, researchers, students and several high-level government officials around a common objective: promoting the role of science, innovation and research in Mali’s sustainable development.
The opening ceremony was marked by the exceptional presence of four government ministers: the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Minister of National Education, the Minister of Mines, and the Minister of Agriculture. The Rector of USTTB also attended this major event, which reflects the growing commitment of national authorities to higher education and scientific research.
In his address, the Rector of USTTB encouraged students to demonstrate greater commitment, discipline and perseverance in their academic journey in order to contribute effectively to knowledge generation and national development.
Speaking in turn, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research warmly thanked his fellow ministers for their presence despite their demanding schedules. He recalled that the 2026–2027 academic year has been designated as the year of Education and Culture, highlighting the importance placed by the highest authorities on education, research and innovation.
The Minister also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening scientific research in Mali. He further commended the recent international distinctions received by Professor Abdoulaye Djimdé, which continue to showcase the excellence of Malian research on the global stage.
The ceremony concluded on a note of hope and ambition for the future of higher education and scientific research in Mali.
On this occasion, the ministerial delegations visited several exhibition stands. The stand of the Parasites and Microbes Research and Training Centre (PMRTC) attracted significant interest, showcasing the various research projects being implemented by its teams and partners. The visit highlighted important scientific advances in the fields of health, genomics, malaria and antimicrobial resistance.
This first edition of the USTTB Scientific Days provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, experience sharing and the promotion of scientific research. It was a promising initiative that lays the foundation for a scientific tradition expected to grow stronger in the years to come.
We extend our sincere congratulations to the organizing committee, partners, faculty members, researchers, students and all those who contributed to the success of this event. Their dedication and commitment made this inaugural edition a remarkable success in advancing science and innovation in Mali.
